Matt Ferrante is a highly sought-after freelance saxophonist and composer known for his versatility and deep roots in the tri-state jazz scene. As a founding member of the Balcony Big Band and leader of the award-winning group Modern Times, Matt has spent decades at the forefront of Pittsburgh’s musical landscape.

Throughout his career, Matt has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, and The Temptations. His studio work is equally extensive, with features on over 20 albums and 30 commercials, alongside his own produced release, The Persistence of Melody.

A dedicated advocate for the next generation of musicians, Matt holds a Masters in Music Education from Duquesne University and is a pioneer in music technology education. After a distinguished career leading performing arts departments and developing district-wide music tech curricula, Matt is now focused exclusively on performing, composing, and producing—bringing the same passion and “joy of music” to every stage he touches.
